The Chinese Tui Na Massage

Tui Na is a style of Chinese manipulative therapy developed over 5000 years ago. This massage is often used along with acupuncture, Chinese herbalism, and other health related therapies. The essence of this massage lies in the applying of pressure to the body at specific key points. It uses a series of tapping, pressing and kneading with the therapist’s palms, knuckles, fingertips or certain apparatus that will help remove any blockages along the meridians  of the body. The result is the stimulation of the flow of qi a natural respiration of the body and blood to promote healing. Tui Na Massage is used as a beneficial treatment for both acute and chronic musculoskeletal conditions, as well as some non-musculoskeletal conditions. This type of treatment has far fewer negative side effects than many of the modern drug and chemical-based treatments that are used today in our western culture. With its use of the meridian system, Chinese massage is closely related to acupuncture, and is considered to be just as effective for a similar range of health problems. However it should not be seen as a poor alternative to acupuncture. Later still Peter Henrik Ling learned from Chinese masters before developing the Swedish massage. The development of the Chinese tradition came from the synergy between the four groups. Doctors who brought the sophisticated medical theories of TCM to massage. The martial arts who combined a deep experience of qi with a great ability to heal injuries. Buddhist and Taoist who use massage as an essential support aid to their spiritual yoga.
